How to Play Love me Tender – Last Minute Gift for Mom!

elvis-love-me-tender

I am going to walk you through how to play this song, and in about an hour of practice, you will be ready to do a video of yourself on your smart phone and send it to your mother for Mother’s Day.

Yes, I have used this song in the past, but this time, I want you to create video of it for Mother’s Day and send it to her.  🙂

The last video is a special dedication to the mother of the student in this video.  It’s a perfect example of why “perfection” is overrated – this imperfect performance will touch your heart and a special gift for anyone to receive.

I hope this inspires you to have fun on the piano and know that perfection isn’t the goal, having fun and touching lives is more important!

  1. Hello Lisa,
Thanks very much for such a clear explanation of this song. I just had like 20 minutes practising it and it sounds really good. I started playing the piano a month ago I think.
I studied your free lessons and I have studied by my own the mayor, minor, diminished and augmented chords and I am glad to be able to play a new song.

  2. Dear Lisa,
thank you for the valentine song……i just want you to know that i am really happy that i have you for a teacher.
i never thought i would actually learn notes and PLAY them. what a pleasure…….and you stay in touch.

YOU HAVE A WONDERFUL VALENTINES DAY!!

  3. Hi Lisa,

First, we wish you, your family and all your students a Happy Valentine’s Day! This is Tempie here.

I’m excited because, I plan to play ‘Love Me Tender’ for my husband Albert for Valentine’s Day! He is my inspiration and makes everyday a Valentine day for me. It is he that has the true musical passion and has been teachng me. We are both published authors, poets, musicians, singers, etc. He is way ahead of me musically but I’m beginning to have a passion and am learning slowly. When I just heard Mike on the recording mention his daugther is in Memphis and he is wearing his Memphis hat, it sparked me as well.

I was born in Memphis in the USA and now live in England with my husband, Albert. Also, I have met Elvis Presley in Memphis and am a devoted fan and it would just warm my heart to be able to even attempt to play a simple version of , ‘Love Me Tender!’

Thank you for providing free lessons, so beginners like me can learn. Keep up your great work.

    Sincerely,

    Albert and Tempie

  4. Thanks Ms. Lisa,

    yours lovingly, sajini

  6. Hi, Lisa!

Despite my swollen right pinky from a bike accident, I got to play Love Me Tender, one of my old favorites, right off the bat.

My wife found me on the piano yesterday afternoon. Some surprise!

I am enjoying the lessons and learning so much!

BTW, I’m 59 with no formal piano lessons. I learned to play the sax on my own and now the piano, with your help.

    Thanks a lot!

    Tony

  7. Greetings Lisa,

Now if I could just strenghthen my left hand a little more. I know I’ll never be a Billy Joel or Elton John but your lessons have been fun & most helpful. Much Appreciation!

  8. Thank You So Much. That was so cool. I impressed my family with Love Me Tender. That was fun. Can’t wait to learn more.

  9. My wife got me this keyboard as a gift for valentine and I am going to impress her by playing this first song on valentine tomorrow. Its really easy. Thanks Lisa. The audio is a real guide for people like me who otherwise do not understand the instructions

  10. Hi everyone, this is Lisa again!

I would be fun for everyone to hear someone’s performance of Love Me Tender! If anyone has the capability, you can post an mp3 link here on the blog!

  11. Dear Lisa,

Thank you for sending me my free gift, Love Me Tender instant play song. I didn’t think it was going to work, but I tried it and its amazing! I can’t wait to play it for my sweetie! I am just floored at how easy it was to learn.
I started with the hands position and then listened to the audio of Mr. Gross. I followed it and it sounded great. Then I listened to your instructions and wrote down the fingers’ numbers and tried that, that worked even better, learned the words to the song and now I am playing it and practicing. I did try to follow the sheet music, but I became confused when the notes drop at the bottom of the staff, I still dont understand that bit, and I didn’t do the left hand, you know I am having a problem, but this second attempt at the left hand is getting a little better, hitting the same notes on the right, and singing along with that hand. Needs more practice I suppose. I am so thrilled! My sweetie will be astounded. I am adding “Love Me Tender” to a private concert on Valentines Day!

  12. Thanks So much Lisa Ma’am..
Its a nice music..I know you have made it an easy method..But for me it was easy to read the notes….
    Have a Happy Valentines Day..!!!
    I hope you Enjoy It…

  13. Hi Lisa ;
Thank you so much for this beautiful lesson , I really enjoyed this .
I have no piano but I have a small keyboard with only 32 keys ! and for playing this melody I had to use other octaves , ( I mean right side octaves for both hands !)
I recorded that and sent to your email address and also uploaded to this link :

    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2KQJDXLR

Please tell me your opionions about that.

Thank You and Happy valentine !
    -Farshad

  14. Farshad,

Your recording was beautifully done, I am impressed with the fluency and timing you achieved in such a short time. Wow!

There is one note that sounds like it needs to be corrected. It is the #4 on the second
page (when you are in F position) that did not sound correct. Your #4 finger should be playing
a black note. Look at the keyboard diagram on the Instant Play sheet for F position
to see what I am talking about.

Other than that, it was a beautiful performance!

    Lisa

  15. That was result of your wonderful explanation and that was really amazing for me how you could find that I have played one wrong note !

I understood and corrected my mistake thanks to your excellent clarification.
Now I can play a beautiful and popular melody and I am very excited .

and another question : Did you recieve my email to teacher@learnpianoonline.com ?
Can I send my emails to this address ?

    Thank you so much
    -Farshad

I feel the tick-tock count is better that 1,2,3,4.
I just listened to your instructions on Love me Tender and am very confident that I will be able to play it. But I could not exit without say a word of gratitude and thanks.

  39. Hi Lisa,
I actually learned piano for one year and then stopped learning cause we had some transportation problems. But your online teaching has inspired me a lot. I suggest that you keep senting me more songs. If you know the song “Light of the world, you step down…….’ please teach me to learn that song. I really love it.
    Thank you
    Priscilla

  43. Hi Lisa, you are doing a smart job in providing music notes to your students. Most other online teachers don´t. I live in the city of Mozart, Salzburg though I could not afford a piano teacher. Happy America you can.

  44. Hi Lisa. Thank you for the love me tender song to learn, it is my Mothers favourite song, so I am trying to play it for her. When I do play it, mum can understand what I am playing, so it must sound ok. ha! ha! I love your easy way of putting things and the picture and writing is nice and big for me to see too when I stand my sheets up on the piano. I started to play piano about 4yrs ago, but I just went off it because I didn’t feel that I was getting anywhere, I guess I was probably not practicing enough. I know it is practice, practice, practice. I also have short fingers, but with your practice warm ups that you said to do, has helped me ALOT. Thank you, Victoria xxx

  46. Dear Lisa,
I am a grandma and never had the time or money to learn the piano. At my age I thought I had left it too late and wouldn’t be able to grasp the piano or be able to read music. I am only in my first week and I am over whelmed about how I am progressing. I make time every morning before I get out of my pj’s to practice. This stops me from being side tracked and going outside. I have my husbands 60th birthday coming up next year and hope to be able to play confidently to him as the grandchildren sing.
Thank you for simplify lessons on learning the piano
    Regards Robyn

  47. Ms. Liza,

an informant program did exist and that sheriff’s deputies had actively recruited and utilized ” informants
and rewarded them in exchange for information.
