Fishing in Anchorage

June 22

A day prior to arriving in Anchorage, my dad told us about a woman who caught a 49 pound King Salmon a couple days ago out at Ship Creek. The first thing I wanted to do was get the directions and head on out to Ship Creek to check out the action. So, off we went and lo and behold we arrived just in time to watch a filipino man catch a 30 pound King! After a few minutes of fighting with his fish, he was able to drag it onto shore without much of a struggle:

We got so excited that we wasted no time and hurried off to the local Fred Meyer store (like a Walmart) and purchased two new poles, fishing gear and a fishing license for me! We went home (reluctantly) and tried to wait patiently for the tide to start coming in and then anxioiusly headed out for our first adventure with King Salmon fishing:
