Great tips! I am hung up at the present, trying to make myself read the notes for all the songs in Lesson 7. Doing this has slowed my progress greatly. All the familiar songs with the previously learned notes are ok, but as I go through the lessons and we are adding new notes, I find my confidence for the ones I already knew by just their position on the staff, is less! When I tried to learn to play piano by myself a few years back, I went through an each song and wrote in all the note names. If I did this now, I could learn a new piece in no time. (I had been able to learn all the notes on the piano keys, but not on a music staff, without writing them in.) But I am fighting that urge now, to write in the note names! Old habits are very hard to break! So this video clip of those few strategies is right on target for me. I practiced with a new piece, as you said, and found I could actually find quite a few notes using those tips! Thanks for your on-going support!

Hi, Lisa. Your note speed reading is very helpful. As a musician on instruments other than piano, I was taught the old way for learning the lines and spaces with “Every Boy Does Fine Always” and for spaces; “what a beautiful FACE you have.

I’m still working diligently at speed reading the notes. It’s helpful as is the finger exercises. Thank you for all the tips. It does take constant practice and concentration, but it’s all worth it for my goal of playing the piano for pure pleasure.
I have learned basic notes, but am not familiar enough to read it without going through EveryGod Boy 🙂 so learning about the fifth interval was very helpful. Thanks!

Thanks Lisa! you’re an amazing piano teacher. I’ve always wanted to learn to play the piano and after I followed your lessons 1 and 2 I’m amazed at what I’ve achieved in an hour interval.

Wonderful tip. This will really cut down the time consumed in translating the note to the right alpahbet and play it which woul definitely increase the speed to read as well as play note. You ROCK.

I previously played Accordion which I had to give up due to health problems hence my reason for learning Piano which I can handle.
However, my speed reading was always slow because I did it by learning the note names.
It’s so obvious that omitting this step and learning to recognise intervals has to be quicker! Add to this you go up a half interval for a sharp and down for a flat and it’s so simple!
I have spent all night trying this with simple and complicated music and it really does make a difference.

Thank you for a wonderful concept. I’ve tried everything possible to master the piano but just could not get going. I have watched your video on speed reading and it made so much more sense. I did music up to grade 4 but never took any exams. Now I am starting from the bottom again and this time I feel confident because your lessons are just as beautiful as your calming voice.
